Alexey Raev

Master's student

Alexey is a student of master's "Geometry and Quantum fields". He is the winner of the Universiade "Lomonosov"-2023. He obtained a privilege "100 points for the master’s entry exam" during the 2023 admission.

Here you may find Alexey's blitz interview on the eve of the Universiade'2024.
  • М.:
Where did you obtainted your bachelor’s degree?
    Alexey:
I graduated from Saint Petersburg State University, faculty of Physics, chair of Higher Mathematics and Mathematical Physics.
  • М.:
Why did you choose "Geometry and Quantum Fields" as your master’s?
    Alexey:
I got the first acquaintance with the program during the ITMP MSU annual Winter school in 2023 — the program was told to include wide range of disciplines in mathematics and mathematical physics. A study of the curriculum led me to the conclusion that this program suits me. As a bachelor’s in physics, I was interested in more than just pure maths, and was exhilarated to find a master’s program, which includes both advanced mathematical disciplines and modern theoretical physics. Moreover, I expected to join a group of highly motivated people, which is a big deal in the scientific community.
  • М.:
Wide range of branches of sciences are covered in the program "Geometry and Quantum Fields". Could you, please, emphasize your own field of occupation?
    Alexey:
I am interested in various branches of maths: during my bachelor’s degree, I was studying the spectral operators theory; now I plan to focus on integrable systems. Also I study research papers on algebraic geometry, topology, Banach algebras, and other topics, which are tightly connected to my research.
  • М.:
It may be too early to discuss the master’s thesis right now, during the first year of studying, however, could you tell us something about your research problem?
    Alexey:
It is in study of integrable hierarchies and Yang-Baxter's equations in conformal field theory. This topic is attractive for me because the study involves knowledge in different branches of mathematics, and also this problem includes a physical constituent.
  • М.:
The first term of your master's is over. What is your favorite subject of the first term?
    Alexey:
Differential geometry and topology became the favorite - and also the most difficult discipline. Probably, it was so attractive due to its difficulty and complexity: studying non-trivial topics and solving complicated problems motivates me to move on. In fact, each subject included some intricating things, giving the base for thoughts.
  • М.:
Are you a member of any funding program?
    Alexey:
Yes, I am a member of the Basis foundation funding program.
  • М.:
Do you still have opportunity to engage in a hobby, or may be do you practice any kind of sports?
    Alexey:
Surely. I dedicate my free time to the walks, also I study foreign languages. The changes of activity may prevent you from burning out and be more efficient in research.
  • М.:
Could you, please, leave a wish for the Universiade-2024 participants?
    Alexey:
I would like to wish the participants of the Universiade good luck and confidence in themselves and their knowledge. I also wish you to choose an interesting master’s program, as well as success in academic and scientific life.
